Against war as a problem-solving tool? Then read this review of “American Sniper” by Stephen Yolly
Over the last couple of weeks a number of people have been pushing us to go and see American Sniper and then to tell everyone what we think.
The film – which enjoyed the largest-grossing weekend for a movie ever when it launched in the USA – has divided opinion. Basically the left intelligentsia and many of those watching the film overseas have condemned it as at best simplistic and at worst American triumphalism, while some on the right have trumpeted it as a return to good ol’ USA values in movie making and a celebration of a folk hero.

Saw the film….not bad..except for some plot faults..like calling his wife by cell phone in the middle of a fight…really?…did they have cell service….?…..or the boys one he shot ..the other he would have,,,in both cases he could have shot to come close..scaring them …otherwise it was as much anti war as pro…he was a brave and reckless man..four tours ..compared to other war movies ..sgt York..wake island..and the rest of the ww two movies..it was really tame on the ra ra flag waving
